University Anniversary/ GD Concert

October 31st is National Chung Cheng University’s anniversary, an annual celebration enjoyed by everyone on campus. Besides the food vendors and the school concert, the most eye-catching event is definitely the anniversary fireworks. Our university is well-known for the beautiful fireworks that light up the night sky every year, and it has become a tradition for students, friends, and families to gather together and enjoy the spectacular show. It’s always one of the most crowded times on campus.

Since I didn’t attend the anniversary last year, this was my first time seeing the famous fireworks. I invited my best friend to come with me, and I had been looking forward to this day for so long—especially because I really needed a break from studying for midterms. I was excited to spend a wonderful evening with her.

On top of the anniversary fireworks, my friend also told me that her company had two PR tickets for G-Dragon’s concert on November 2nd. She is a huge fan of BIGBANG and G-Dragon, and she wanted to bring me as her plus-one. This weekend honestly couldn’t have been more perfect! I got to watch the spectacular fireworks with my bestie, and two days later I would get to go to a free concert with her? Is this real life??? I couldn’t have been happier when she told me the news.

When the anniversary finally arrived, I was super hyped for the fireworks. My friend showed up with a little surprise—the candy I had been wanting to try! She truly is the sweetest person I know. We wandered around the food trucks and tried everything: hot dogs, strawberry milk, stinky tofu, a cheesy beef wrap, samosas, sweet potato balls, and grilled squid. How could two girls eat so much? We looked like we hadn’t eaten in days. After stuffing our stomachs, we headed to the track field to wait for the fireworks. I had never seen so many people on campus before—it felt like the whole world had gathered in one place. And the fireworks were even more breathtaking than I expected! They went on for about seven to eight minutes. No wonder the crowd was so huge—they were absolutely stunning.

Anniversary fireworks

After watching the fireworks with my friend, we spent the next day watching movies and hanging out. It felt really nice to take a break from all the schoolwork and just relax. We were both really excited about the concert the day after! We went to the train station early in the morning because the transportation around our university is a bit inconvenient. Once again, I depended on my friend—she did all the research and even bought both of our train tickets. How can I live without her hahahaha. We arrived at the Taipei Dome, where the concert was held, at around 5 p.m. The venue was filled with fans holding daisy light sticks, and our seats were incredible!! We could see the stage clearly, and the view was perfect. This was only the second concert I’ve ever been to. My first one was Bruno Mars, but I was seated on the third floor, so I couldn’t see anything clearly. This time, thanks to my friend, the seats were amazing—and I didn’t even have to deal with the stressful ticket-buying process.

The show was ecstatic. GD was an incredible performer—his vocals, his stage presence, everything was pure perfection. I think I might have become a fan that day. I loved all the songs he performed. One of my favorite moments was when all the fans sang along together; it felt so cool and unforgettable. This weekend will definitely be a treasured memory for me. From the fabulous fireworks to the amazing concert, it was all so wonderful. I haven’t had this much fun in such a long time. I’m really grateful to my friend for bringing me along and sharing this experience with me. If I ever get the chance to take her to a concert someday, I will absolutely bring her with me.
