Shows that I'm obsessed with
The thing I like to do most in my free time is watch TV shows. Through shows, I can get a good laugh, experience different lives, and learn so much from the characters. At the moment, there are three shows that I am completely obsessed with. Modern Family is the best sitcom ever, in my opinion, and I recommend it to every living person I know. My second favorite is The Office, a comedy classic. Last but not least, Sex and the City is also a classic TV show that I cannot stop rewatching.

Modern Family is a mockumentary-style sitcom that follows the lives of three different but interconnected families in Los Angeles. Together, they form one big family. Throughout the show, it portrays what their lives as a family look like—there are laughs, tears, and relatable moments that make the audience feel like part of the family. Modern Family’s scriptwriters are geniuses. The comedic timing and jokes are chef’s kiss. I always find myself laughing whenever I watch the show.

One of my favorite scenes is when Haley Dunphy, the eldest daughter in the Dunphy family, leaves home for college. When her parents help her move into her dorm, Haley quickly becomes embarrassed by them, just like many kids do. She rushes them and says goodbye very quickly, but later on, she realizes she misses her mom and dad and calls them. Although (spoiler alert) Haley will soon get kicked out of college, this episode is still really heartwarming. It is really nice to see the love parents have for their children, and watching Haley go to college as a freshman—the excitement, nervousness, and feeling of leaving home—feels very relatable to me.

Another sitcom I really like is The Office. It is also a mockumentary-style sitcom, just like Modern Family. The Office is loved by all generations and is still very popular to this day, even though it ended twelve years ago. The show is centered around a paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It uses awkward humor, sharp dialogue, and relatable situations to turn ordinary office life into comedy. The show proves that meaningful and memorable moments can come from the most ordinary days.

There are many iconic scenes in this show—the hilarious boss Michael Scott and his idiotic behavior, the frenemy relationship between Jim and Dwight, and so many others. However, the storyline I still think about the most is the love story between Jim and Pam. What can I say? I’m a sucker for romance. Jim and Pam were good friends at the company, but secretly, Jim was in love with her while Pam was engaged at the time. The slow burn of their relationship throughout the show really builds anticipation. In my opinion, Jim and Pam have one of the most romantic love stories in TV history. Every interaction between the two gives me butterflies.

The third and last show I want to talk about is Sex and the City. As the title suggests, the show focuses on topics related to sex, relationships, and modern womanhood. It follows four women living in New York City who navigate love, friendships, and their careers together. Carrie Bradshaw, the main character, is a journalist who writes a newspaper column about sex and relationships. Samantha Jones is a confident PR agent who enjoys the freedom of unattached relationships and openly embraces her sexuality. Charlotte York works at an art gallery and strongly believes in true love and traditional romance. Miranda Hobbes is a successful lawyer who works at a large law firm and often brings a more realistic and practical perspective to dating and life.

Sex and the City has my favorite character of all time. I love Charlotte York wholeheartedly. She represents who I want to be in the future—elegant, beautiful, and someone with great taste in everything she does. Charlotte is kind-hearted, optimistic, and deeply romantic. She believes in love, marriage, and happy endings, even when life does not always go the way she expects. Most importantly, she knows her worth and never loses her self-respect. She is one of the main reasons I adore the show so much. My goal in life is to live a fabulous life just like she did—graceful, confident, and true to herself. I like Charlotte so much that she is even my Instagram profile picture.

Besides her character, the relationship between the four women is also one of my favorite parts of the show. Their conversations, witty jokes, and strong friendship make the series feel so real and interesting. Charlotte once said, “Maybe we can be each other's soulmates. And then we could just let men be these great, nice guys to have fun with!” I still think about this quote all the time. Soulmates are not always romantic partners; they can be people you meet at different stages in life who grow into lifelong friends.
